NORDEFCO
The purpose of the Nordic Defence Cooperation is to strengthen the Participants’ national defence, explore common synergies and facilitate efficient common solutions. The Nordic Defence Cooperation has an annually rotating chairmanship, for 2010 Norway is the chairing nation.
NORDCAPS activities are from 2010 included in NORDEFCO.
The Military organisation behind NORDEFCO is based upon 5 different Cooperation Areas (COPA). The role for the COPA is to Lead, manage and implements decisions made by NORDEF MCC.
1. Strategic Development, Cooperation in the area of Strategic Development, i.e. regarding the long term future of 10-20 years ahead of implementation. E.g. research, experimentation, concept development, long term strategic analysis, etc.
2. Capabilities. Cooperation in the area of Capability development and implementation in the time period of 2-10 years, incl. sub areas Armament/acquisition, Logistics and C4I.
3. Human resource & Education. Cooperation in the area of Human Resources and Education (Education encompasses education of individuals or groups of individuals performed outside the context of a common military unit), i.e. in a time period of 0-5 years. E.g. Vocational courses, Higher military education, ADL, etc.
4. Training and Exercises, Cooperation in the area of collective Training and Exercises. Training and exercises encompasses individuals and units within a military unit, in a time period
of 0-5 years. E.g. Cross border training, Combined and joint exercises, etc.
5. Operations. Cooperation in the area of military operations in a time frame of 0-2 years.
